Mains
Peach BBQ Tempeh
August 23, 2018

It’s time to get real about tempeh. It’s a soy-based meat alternative that packs soybeans, grains and vegetables into a dense, cake-like loaf. Contrary to tofu, it’s full of flavor and absolutely wows when paired with a good marinade. You’ll definitely be having one of those “I can’t believe it’s not meat!” moments.

Peach BBQ Tempeh 1

This Peach BBQ marinade offers a fresh mix of sweetness from a ripe peach and spiciness from you bbq and hot sauce base. Whether your an expert with tempeh or new to the game, this dish is simple, fresh and a change of pace from your usual grill lineup.

Recipe

Peach BBQ Tempeh

  • 1 package of Tempeh (I used Lightlife's Garden Vegetable flavor)
  • 1 Ripe Peach
  • 1 cup of BBQ sauce (I used Bone Doctor's Sweet & Spicy BBQ Sauce.)
  • Approx. 2 Tablespoons Hot Sauce
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic
  • ¼ cup of Fresh Parsley
  • Sea Salt
  • Pepper
  • Pickled vegetables for garnish. (I used pickled onions and jalepeños.)

Directions

1. To prepare the Peach BBQ marinade, combine pitted peach, bbq sauce, garlic, parsley, hot sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper in a blender or a food processor.

2. Pour blended marinade into a bowl and brush tempeh with mixture on all sides.

3. Grill on high heat for 10 minutes on each side - periodically brushing with marinade to create a glaze.

4. Brush one more time with warmed glaze before serving, and top with pickled vegetables.
